Landscape Manitoba celebrates the Green Industry at the Manitoba Green Show Contact: Rebecca Wetselaar, 1-866-383-4711, rebecca@canadanursery.com (February 12, 2010) Landscape Manitoba’s trade show and conference for the Green Industry, the Manitoba Green Show, recognized industry contributors during the Awards of Excellence Gala on Tuesday February 9th. Landscape Manitoba handed out two awards for Landscape Construction Projects over $15,000.00 to Lemkey Landscape Design (Winnipeg) for the “Holowenko Residence” and the “Johnson Residence”. One award was handed out for Landscape Maintenance over $15,000 to Rivers Edge Nursery (LaBarriere) for the “Brookside Cemetery Section I-150”. In addition, Landscape Manitoba handed out the Project EverGreen “Because Green Matters” Award to Doug Hevonor, CEO of The International Peace Garden. The “Because Green Matters” Award is presented to an individual or organization whose actions or influence have directly resulted in the betterment and sustainability of our environment and have also made a significant contribution to the Green Industry in Manitoba. Since taking on the role of CEO in 2005, Hevenor has worked tirelessly to revamp the aging gardens and infrastructure at the International Peace Gardens. His lobbying efforts on both sides of the border have resulted in major funding that will allow these projects to proceed. The International Peace Garden, existing since 1932, sits along the world’s longest unfortified border in between North Dakota and Manitoba, and acts as a symbol of friendship. Landscape Manitoba’s Awards of Excellence program highlights the importance of sustainable landscapes to the well-being and beauty of Canada’s increasingly urban environment. The program recognizes the key role played by landscape design, installation and maintenance companies, parks boards and other horticulturists in executing the best management practices that protect our environment including: water cleanliness and conservation; pest management; air quality; waste reduction; and plant selection. Landscape Manitoba’s Awards ceremony was held during their annual trade show and conference, The Manitoba Green Show, which featured 65 booths, and speakers from across Canada and the US. |
